There are many similarities between counselling and psychotherapy as they are both talking therapies. In each case it involves you working with somebody to address something that is bothering you and affecting your ability to lead a normal life. Research has shown that what is most effective is that you feel comfortable with the person you are working with - only natural when sharing personal information.
